Our Solution
Big Dutchman Southern Africa partnered with Conshara Farms in Welkom to deliver a state-of-the-art 400,000 layer facility. The project includes Africa’s first double-storey, 8-tier housing system accommodating up to 40,000 birds comfortably and safely. The fully environmentally controlled building features Big Dutchman’s advanced feeding, watering, ventilation and welfare-focused solutions, ensuring space efficiency while allowing hens to express natural behaviours like scratching and foraging.

Big Dutchman Southern Africa was proud to be part of a landmark project recently completed in Welkom, Free State.

This impressive 400,000 layer facility includes Africa’s first double-story, 8-tier housing system, providing a modern, space-efficient environment that comfortably accommodates up to 40,000 birds.

The fully environmentally controlled building is equipped with Big Dutchman’s latest feeding, watering, and ventilation systems, designed to ensure the birds have constant access to clean air, fresh water and high-quality feed.

The advanced design also allows the hens space to act out their natural behaviours such as scratching and foraging, supporting both productivity and animal welfare.
