It’s all about the air: wall inlets for pig and poultry production

Controlled fresh air supply: how modern climate control works in pig and poultry production today

Climate control is not just a side note in pig and poultry production. Too little fresh air, too much of it or at the wrong time – farmers know the consequences: the animals are uncomfortable and more susceptible to disease, and they grow more slowly. Yet another indicator that there is a direct connection between animal welfare and profitability. For Big Dutchman, a good environment in pig and poultry houses has always been a relevant topic, as confirmed by the product range. A good example: the wall inlets of the CL-3-1200 and CL-3-1911/F series, which have been designed for the specific requirements of modern livestock housing.

The core of both inlet series is an insulated flap that makes the house completely airtight when closed. Strong, corrosion-resistant tension springs keep the flap securely closed. When the ventilation system opens the flap through downward pull, fresh air enters in a controlled manner – the amount of air can be adjusted according to demand.

Made from shock-proof, UV-stabilised and recyclable plastic, the inlets withstand the harsh conditions in the house without complaint and can be easily cleaned with a high-pressure washer. The result: virtually maintenance-free operation, and a service life of 20 years or more is not unusual!

With the corresponding control system, the inlets open either all at once or individually – pre-defined directly at the inlet and made possible through the patented advanced inlet control.

The CL-3-1200 series is an all-rounder. Whether the wall is a solid masonry wall (irrespective of width) or constructed from sandwich panels: there is an inlet variant for nearly any type of house design. For farms in particularly cold regions, the Anti-Freeze version is a great option. It works reliably even with temperatures below -25 °C and prevents freezing of the flap.

The CL-1911/F series stands for a high air flow rate and has been designed primarily for sandwich panels, which are currently the standard choice for modern livestock housing.

Inlets of both series can be combined with the ideal accessories: long or short air deflectors, protective grilles against birds, light traps, and wall extensions for thick outer walls.

Fresh air is not a luxury in pig and poultry houses but the basis for welfare and good performance. Inlets are a central component – for a controlled fresh air supply, fewer draughts and improved results.
