The answer –
a feed chain. THE classic Big Dutchman product for poultry production, which was named Champion years ago by employees of the German poultry equipment supplier and which celebrates its 88th anniversary in 2026.
The history –
dates back to the year 1938, when the Big Dutchman founders were the first to recognise the potential of automatic chain feeding and turned a good idea into a ground-breaking innovation. With clever modifications and professional marketing, they set standards – and the chain became a standard in poultry houses the world over.
Today –
The poultry equipment supplier from Vechta looks back on around 200,000 kilometres of the Champion sold worldwide. The chain has proved itself a million times over due to its robust and simple design. The basic concept – feed hopper, drive unit, corner, trough and the feed chain itself – has remained unchanged. The entire system, however, is continuously being improved and adapted to the requirements of modern poultry production.
Complaints –
have also been made. “We would have sold so much more chain if it did not have such an impossibly long life! 30 years are really not uncommon,” say the sales colleagues. Tongue-in-cheek, of course.
The Original –
is unmistakable. Because of its tattoos. Lots of tattoos, in fact: Big Dutchman is committed to quality – and makes sure that every link is engraved with the letters “BD”.
