Big Dutchman is delighted to have been involved in a turnkey solution for Onderstepoort biological products on a vector-proof facility. The Project involved a state-of-the-art building 70 m x 15m wide which had to be free from insects (vector proof) with a positive ventilation system for OBP to test their vaccines on horses and other small livestock.
The buildings was ventilated using 2 x Airprotec 20 000 which is an air filtered system used in Europe to prevent the spread of PRRS virus. Another advantage to the system is that incoming air can also be cooled, thus providing a comfortable environment for the animals.
Meeting stringent requirements for the building from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) as well as prioritising animal welfare was the core foundation of our design.
On the 8 October 2024 the facility was opened officially by government and parliament officials where Scott Wiggill and Mervyn Brown gave a presentation on the design and operation of the building and in particular the state-of-the-art ventilation system.
